Three years ago, the CDNK sisters officially opened the first Province, Northwest of Tanzania, with its headquarters in the Archdiocese of Mwanza. As the congregation grows and its mission expands, this year (2024) there has been a need to open a second province, in the Northeast of Tanzania.
The St. Joseph's Wells’ annual trip to the CDNK Sisters in February, 2024 was very fruitful. Two SJW board members, Suzanne Bruning and Douglas Buday, visited CDNK facilities in Moshi, Arusha, Dar-es salaam and Mwanza, including five sites where new wells are scheduled to be drilled. Mother Theresa and all the CDNK Sisters are very grateful for the amazing gift of SJW, as they have completed the fourteenth well! May God continue to bless all of our donors!
It is a special blessing to see such a good number of candidates in all stages of formation, who are joyfully adopting our charism and becoming new members of the CDNK.
With great joy, the CDNK sisters celebrated the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8, 2023. On this day of solemnity, which honors the First Patroness of our Congregation, 27 sisters marked the anniversary of the day they consecrated themselves to God. In July 2018, the sisters of Our Lady of Kilimanjaro extended our mission by establishing the Northwestern Province. We congratulate the former Provincial General, Mother Benjamina Buya CDNK, and her administrative team, for their incredible hardworking during their past four years, as they now hand over the office to the new leaders. According to our constitution, the provincial leaders run the office for four years.
The Northwestern Province held the Second General Meeting at Igoma in the Catholic Archdiocese of Mwanza from August 8, to 23, 2023 followed by the election of the new leaders.
On December 8, every year we joyfully celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, who is the First Patroness of our congregation. As one family, we thank God for the gift of one another, and celebrate with gratitude the Anniversaries of our members who have surrendered themselves for the Kingdom of God in different years of profession: 25, 50, 60, and 70 years in the consecrated life.
October First is customarily a big day of celebration in our congregation. It is a Memorial Day of St. Therese of the Child Jesus (Therese de Lisieux), one of the congregation’s Patroness. It is also a feast day of our current superior general, Mother Theresa Buretta CDNK.
Happy Feast Day Mother Theresa! Congratulations for providing such courageous and an outstanding leadership! God bless our congregation!
We take education of our sisters seriously by preparing them to render relevant services to the people according to the needs of the church and of all people. Lucretia Njau CDNK, graduated with PhD in Philosophy Education in November 26, 2022, at Mwenge Catholic University. Sr. Fulgensia Kweka CDNK graduated with PhD in Education at the University of Dar es Salaam in December 2022.
On July 7, 2022, Sister Moses Silayo CDNK, graduated in the Civil Lawyer Degree, and was awarded the Lawyer’s Seal ready to practice her duties as an Advocate. The whole congregation congratulates and wishes Sr. Silayo God’s blessings in her new apostolate.
The CDNK Sisters also own another school of Nursing - Huruma Institute of Health and Allied Sciences in Rombo District. Here, Sr. Joelina Mlay and Sister Radegunda Mbuya are seen celebrating as licensed Nurses and midwives.
Gratefully, we congratulate the heroes and founders of St. Joseph’s Wells: Georgeann and Suzanne for the amazing job they have achieved! Their tireless work has had great success as they have accomplished 9 CDNK Sisters’ facilities – with bore holes and solar system, and two additional facilities are underway.
God has blessed us with a good number of vocations. Every year we have new members who take their vows in different stages. We have those who consecrate themselves to God for the first time through the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience. According to our constitution, a new professed member will be on her ongoing formation for discernment while in her apostolate for nine years. “The evangelical counsels are thus above all a gift of the Holy Trinity. The consecrated life proclaims what the Father, through the Son and in the Spirit, brings about by his love, his goodness, and his beauty. In fact, "the religious state reveals the transcendence of the Kingdom of God and its requirements over all earthly things” (Vita Consecrata 20 - John Paul II).
Following our charism, we strive to put God first in all that we think, say, and do, as we dedicate ourselves to God through our services. One of our main missions is to provide an excellent education which will enlighten the future of our youth and children in our schools. Upendo Primary school is one of the best schools in Mwanza Region owned by the CDNK sisters. Our students are always thankful to God for the opportunity to receive good education. Martine Luther King states, “the function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character–that is the goal of true education.”
St. Theresa School of Nursing was inaugurated in April 2021 with a good number of the first intake, and this year it has successfully enrolled an additional 25 students.
In keeping with the mandates of the Constitution of the Sisters of Our Lady of Kilimanjaro, the General Chapters which occur every six years, took place from November 3 to December 16, 2019 at the Novitiate House at Mailisita, a few miles away from the city of Moshi in Tanzania.
